Pfizer Awaits Approval for its New Viagra Advertisement

Viagra advertisements have been away from the television for about a year now but Pfizer Inc., its manufacturer still draws criticism from its critics.

Pfizer has created some new Viagra advertisements which are under review from the Food and Drug Administration about their safety and efficacy. Pfizer is planning to launch these advertisements somewhere towards the later of this year once they pass the approval of the FDA.

Viagra is one of the most popular brand name drugs in the world even though Pfizer may have not spent such a huge amount for its publicity. After the other rivals of Viagra, that is, Cialis and Levitra were launched along with their advertisements in the market, Viagra's advertisement also drew severe lashing for its advertisements, though Viagra had been launched much earlier than these other drugs.

Pfizer ran an ad in the year 2004 with a man standing infront of the letter ‘V' in Viagra appearing as if he has developed horns with the tag line “Get Back to Mischief.” The ad was pulled away in the same year as it drew objections from the FDA regulators. Doctors were of the view that such ads were confusing as it sent wrong messages to such men who could be benefited from Viagra.

Last year Pfizer pledged that it would promote Viagra only in TV programs with predominantly adult audiences and would avoid high-profile programs such as the Super Bowl. Moreover, as required, the ads would now consist of more information about the potential safety risks.
