Pfizer's Viagra to Face Tough Competition in India
With Indian population being the one sixth of the total world population every manufacturer sees India as one of the biggest markets in the world for the sale of its product.
Viagra, the #1 sex drug for males to treat their erectile difficulties was recently launched in India , 7 years after what it was launched in the US and the other parts of the world. The most important question is that whether Pfizer's Viagra would really be able to hit the Indian market. Due to this reason Pfizer was initially reluctant to launch its drug in the Indian market.
In India , Viagra would have to face a stiff competition from its rivals—the local pharmacies producing the generic version of Viagra. In fact, India has generic versions of the pill from Zydus Cadila, Sun Pharma and Alchem, which contain the same ingredient since 2001. The little blue pill costs Rs 594 for 100-mg and the local versions cost between Rs 90 to Rs 120 for a strip of four.
It has to be seen in the long run that whether Pfizer's Viagra would be really able to carve a niche for itself in the face of stiff competition in the Indian Market or not.
