Lipitor may Work When Viagra Fails
Erectile dysfunction has the problem of vascular diseases as its underlying cause. This can be said because erectile dysfunction occurs only because of the poor blood flow into the male genitalia. Nitric oxide, produced when a person is sexually stimulated is also one of the reasons for providing erection in men. It is for this reason that Viagra is advised. Viagra prevents the inhibition of nitric oxide, and thus helps in providing erection to the male sex organ.
Though Viagra works on most men with erectile troubles, it sometimes fails to elicit any response from some 20%-30% of the men who suffer from erectile difficulties. A study undertaken by the University of Pennsylvania , School of Medicines , shows that men who are ‘non-responders, to Viagra, show improvement in their erectile function when administered Lipitor, the cholesterol reduction drug.
Dr. Howard C. Herrmann, the lead author of the study undertaken by the University of Pennsylvania , School of Medicines , undertook a small, double blind, randomized, placebo controlled study in which he took a dozen men and gave them a high dose of Lipitor continuously for at least 6 weeks. After this when they were again tested they showed better erectile function of their organ of manhood.
The study was supported by Pfizer, the manufacturer of both Viagra and Lipitor.
