Low Viagra Sales Compels Indian Chemists to Sell it without Prescription
In the Indian metropolitan city of Mumbai , the lukewarm response of men for the branded Viagra pills manufactured by Pfizer has compelled the local chemists to sell the drug even without prescription like an ‘over-counter drug'.
This kind of Viagra sale is surely like inviting risks as it exposes the people to some of the harmful side effects of Viagra. Not only this, the chemists are even gently pushing these drugs to their customers in order to clear their stocks of this unsold drug. According to Ranjan Bhonsle, a sexologist, “Flouting rules, chemists sell Sildenafil Citrate including Viagra over the counter, but also goad people on to buy them.”
Viagra is an anti-erectile dysfunction drug that is meant to be sold only on a prescription of an urologist or endocrinologist. Not only this, the prescription should also carry the name and address of the patient along with the term for which the drug has been prescribed. This is required because Viagra is not meant to be prescribed often as the drug is meant just for temporary effect and not for therapeutic use.
Viagra is believed to have the side effects like heart problems and hypertension. According to the sexologist, Ranjan Bhonsle, it is better to look at the cause leading to the problem of erectile dysfunction, rather than plainly taking sex drugs like Viagra.
