Sildenafil Citrate is not an Aphrodisiac, Warn Doctors
People who indiscriminately keep on popping the blue pill Viagra or the generic version of the drug manufactured by the local pharmacies, thinking it to be an aphrodisiac should remember that the drug is not an aphrodisiac and is just like any other medicine to treat a physical disorder. In this case it is a sexual drug helpful in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. These drugs are not sex stimulants, says a leading Indian doctor.
These drugs are effective in treating erectile dysfunction and should not be taken as over the counter drugs. Viagra and its generics are not supposed to be taken without a doctor's prescription. “It is something that needs to be taken under doctor's supervision and not over the counter" said Dr Ramesh Goel Consultant in Diabetology and Endocrinology of Apollo Hospital.
Viagra would prove effective only in men suffering from erectile dysfunction and will not have any effect on normal men.
Moreover, any person suffering from heart disease taking nitrate drugs should not start taking Viagra on his own without consulting his doctors because nitrate drugs and Viagra or its generics are a fatal combination.
